The price of Platinum is on average equal to the price of 18k Gold.

Platinum is on the precious metal spot price list together with Gold, Silver, Palladium and Rhodium.

It is a precious metal, light grey in colour, very heavy and is resistant to corrosion, meaning that it will last for a very long time.

Platinum is a member of the Platinum Group which includes the following:

Ruthenium (Ru) Rhodium (Rh) Palladium (Pd) Osmium (Os) and Iridium (Ir).

This metal is mainly used in rings but can be used to create bracelets, necklaces and earrings.

Why is Platinum more expensive then Gold?

Platinum is harder to work with – it takes twice as long to make the ring in platinum then it does to make it in gold and requires a jeweller with experience to work with this metal.

More material is used to make the piece in platinum then in gold – the platinum piece will weigh more.

Generally, the purity percentage is higher then that of Gold.

Most commonly seen markings on Platinum jewellery:

PLAT;

Pt;

950;

900;

850;

750;

700

and Pt in combination with any of the above numbers.

Recently Pt has been introduced in jewellery pieces.
